Men's Soccer Hosts UC Clermont in Home Opener on Tuesday

WILMINGTON, Ohio – The Wilmington College men's soccer team opens its home slate of the 2018 season on Tuesday when the University of Cincinnati Clermont College comes to Williams Stadium for a 7:30 p.m. contest.

The Teams: Wilmington and UC Clermont. The Fightin' Quakers are 0-1 on the season after falling 3-1 at Thomas More College last Friday. The Cougars, who are 2-2 on the year, have played four contests in the 2018 season including two against NCAA Division III opponents. Earlham College edged UC Clermont 3-2 in overtime while Anderson University handily defeated the Cougars 5-1.

The Coaches: Alex Van der Sluijs is in his first year leading Wilmington's men's soccer team. The 2006 alumnus takes over for former and 43-year head coach Bud Lewis. Van der Sluijs, who was a three-time First Team All-OAC selection and a member of the program's only team to win an OAC title in 2004, worked at Defiance College for seven seasons. Peter Ohmer is the head coach of UC Clermont.

The Players: Adriel Ortiz scored the Fightin' Quakers' lone goal against Thomas More. Niklas Martensson and Bruce Anthony have both fired two shots for Wilmington this season. Statistics for UC Clermont were not available.

Last Time Around: Wilmington defeated UC Clermont 8-1 last season in the Kiwanis Classic. The Quakers scored seven first-half goals in the contest.
