Baseball Heads to Heidelberg on Sunday

SERIES HISTORY

WILMINGTON, Ohio – The Wilmington College baseball team hits the road for an Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) series at Heidelberg University on Sunday. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.

The Teams: Wilmington and Heidelberg. The Fightin' Quakers are 7-25 on the season after losing a back-and-forth contest to Wittenberg University by a score of 6-5. The Student Princes are 23-11 overall, but recently lost to No. 9 Denison University 8-2 on Wednesday.

The Coaches: The 2019 season marks the new era for Wilmington College baseball team as the head coach Tony Vittorio starts his first season in charge of the program. He most recently served as the head coach at the University of Dayton for 18 seasons. Chad Fitzgerald has been at Heidelberg for a dozen seasons including five as the program's head coach.

The Hitters: Gage Bley leads Wilmington in several offensive categories including: batting average (.391), hits (52), runs scored (29), doubles (17), triples (2) and RBIs (30). Nick Silvis also carries a .331 batting average including 17 RBIs while Luke Kleindl leads the Quakers in home runs with three and has also driven in 20 runs. Kyle Jenkins and Matt Psychas both have over a .360 batting average and over 30 RBIs for Heidelberg while Brendan Mapes has a .437 batting average.

The Pitchers: Jared Ferenchak, who earned a complete-game victory in 10 innings against Mount Union on Monday, leads Wilmington in innings pitched (56.2) as well as carrying a 3.65 ERA. Matt Oney, who has pitched in relief for the better part of the year, has a 4.22 ERA in 21.1 innings pitched. Additionally, Lance Fleischman has a team-best 36 strikeouts. Alex Sir Louis has a 6-1 record in 55 innings pitched and a 2.95 ERA for Heidelberg.
