Baseball Continues OAC Play at Otterbein on Tuesday

WILMINGTON, Ohio – The Wilmington College baseball team continues Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) play on Tuesday as the Fightin' Quakers head to defending OAC champions Otterbein University for a two-game series slated for a 1 p.m. start.

The Teams: Wilmington and Otterbein. The Quakers are 6-17 overall and 2-4 in OAC play after falling 6-4 in 12 innings and 15-1 to Baldwin Wallace University (BW) on Saturday. The Cardinals, who stand at 12-10 overall, are 4-2 in conference after splitting with No. 24 Heidelberg University last weekend.

The Coaches: The 2019 season marks the new era for Wilmington College baseball team as the head coach Tony Vittorio starts his first season in charge of the program. He most recently served as the head coach at the University of Dayton for 18 seasons. George Powell, the reigning OAC Coach of the Year, is in his 20th season at the helm of the Cardinals' program.

The Hitters: A quartet of Quakers – Gage Bley, Luke Kleindl, Jake Hyatt and Nick Silvis – have driven in at least a dozen runs with Kleindl leading the bunch at 18 to go along with his three home runs. Gage Bley has a team-best 11 doubles and two triples while Antonio Miller, who carries a .274 batting average, has swiped 19 stolen bases this season. Tim Snyder has topped the Cardinals' offense with a .390 batting average and 22 RBIs thus far this season. Connor Brett and Luke Barber have each left the park three times for Otterbein.

The Pitchers: Jared Ferenchak, who received a no-decision against BW on Saturday despite pitching into the 12th inning, leads Wilmington in innings pitched (40.0) and ERA with 3.82. Matt Oney has been the Quakers' most effective relief pitcher as the junior has a 4.73 ERA in 13.1 innings pitched. Travis Engard has been one of Otterbein's top starting pitcher with a 2.61 ERA in 31.0 innings pitched with 23 strikeouts. Collin Hoffmann has five saves and 30 strikeouts in 20.0 innings pitched as Otterbein's closer.
