Baseball Travels to Marietta on Saturday

WILMINGTON, Ohio – The Wilmington College baseball team looks to snap a six-game Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) losing streak on Saturday when the Fightin' Quakers face Marietta College the road on Saturday. First pitch from Don Schaly Stadium is slated for 1 p.m.

The Teams: Wilmington and Marietta. The Fightin' Quakers are 6-19 overall and 2-6 in OAC play after getting swept at Otterbein University 11-2 and 10-8 on Wednesday. The Pioneers, or the "Etta Express" as they call themselves, are 10-13 on the season and an even 4-4 in conference competition after a split with the University of Mount Union on Wednesday.

The Coaches: The 2019 season marks the new era for Wilmington College baseball team as the head coach Tony Vittorio starts his first season in charge of the program. He most recently served as the head coach at the University of Dayton for 18 seasons. Brian Brewer, a 1993 graduate of Marietta, is in his 16ths season as the Pioneers' head baseball coach. Brewer has led Marietta to three national championships in his tenure.

The Hitters: Gage Bley has been Wilmington's best offensive player through 25 games as the senior leads the team in many offensive categories that include: batting average (.368), hits (39), runs (21) doubles (13), triples (two) and RBIs (21). Luke Kleindl has a team-best three home runs while Antonio Miller has swiped 19 stolen bases while only being caught five times. Marietta's offense is led by Damien Yenzi who carries a .381 batting average to go along with seven doubles and 20 RBIs. Both Alexis Page and Mike Hale have hit three home runs.

The Pitchers: Jared Ferenchak and Matt Oney both boast ERAs under 4.00 for Wilmington. Ferenchak, who has pitched a team-best 40 innings, has a 1-1 record with a single save to go along with his 3.82 ERA. Oney, who has pitched 16 innings in relief. Lance Fleischman leads the team with 32 strikeouts. John Stover and Gino Sabatine have combined for seven victories for Marietta while Dalton Wiggins leads the Pioneers with 32 strikeouts.
