Softball Halted by Anderson (Ind.) Monday at Home

(WILMINGTON, Ohio) – The Wilmington College softball team was swept by the Anderson University (Ind.) Ravens Monday afternoon at the WC Softball Complex. They lost game one 4-2 and game two, 9-0.

After falling behind 3-0 in game one, the Quakers fought back to make it 3-2, but the Ravens would hold on for the win. A disastrous sixth inning took away any chances of a Quakers victory in game two. Wilmington is 13-16-1 overall this season and are back at home Wednesday against Capital.

Game One – Anderson (Ind.) defeats Wilmington, 4-2

Anderson took a 3-0 lead after the first two innings. The Quakers had a runner in scoring position in the bottom of the second, but a foul out ended the frame.

Wilmington struck for their two runs in the bottom of the third. With runners on first and second and two outs, a Judaea Wilson single up the middle scored Kori Cornett. Jocelyn Franz scored in the inning as well on a wild pitch.

The Quakers loaded the bases with one out in the fourth, but a pitching change helped Anderson escape the inning with their lead. Wilmington wouldn't get any more runners in scoring position in the game as the Ravens claimed the victory.

Game One Notables

Game Two – Anderson (Ind.) defeats Wilmington, 9-0 (6 innings)

The Ravens grabbed a run in the top of the first. Wilmington had a runner at second with one out in the bottom of the first, but a strikeout and ground out ended the frame.

The Quakers had a runner at second in the fourth inning, but wouldn't get the big hit with two outs. Anderson took a 2-0 lead in the fifth. Wilmington responded with two hits to start the bottom of the fifth, but three straight outs got Anderson out of the jam. The Ravens scored seven in the sixth and shut the door for the win.

What's Up Next

Wilmington returns to Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) play Wednesday afternoon against the Capital University Comets. They begin the doubleheader at 3:00 P.M.
