Heys Named OAC Men's Cross Country Runner of the Week

WESTERVILLE, Ohio - Wilmington College cross country junior Simon Heys has garnered the Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) Men's Cross Country Runner of the Week honor for events held from Sept. 1-6.

Heys smashed the men's cross country program record by winning the Grizzly Invitational hosted by Franklin College on Saturday. The Wilmington High School alumnus ran a time of 25:03.47 to win the race by over 20 seconds. The old WC record holder, Alek Erwin, ran his time of 25:25.34 during the 2013 season.

"Simon ran a strong race at Franklin on Saturday in his opening 8-kilometer race of the season," Head Cross Country Coach Ron Combs said. "He's been very focused, and he's put a ton of quality work preparing for the season. It was great to see him run well on the course that will host our Great Lakes Regional meet on November 13th."

Wilmington heads to Wittenberg University on Saturday.
