SHELBYVILLE, Indiana - The Wilmingon College men's cross country team traveled out of state and snagged top three honors in the first 8k race of the 2021 season. The team placed third-of-ten but the main highlight came from a single athlete from Wilmington. Simon Heys smashed the Wilmington College men's cross country record by winning the Grizzly Invitational hosted by Franklin College on Saturday.

The junior ran a time of 25:03.47 to win the race by over 20 seconds. The old WC record holder, Alek Erwin, ran his time of 25:25.34 during the 2013 season.

It is difficult to overlook how well the team did as a whole. The men had five runners finish in the top 25 including Heys. The squad finished 13-14-15-21 in order of Noah Tobin (26:56.42), George Rickett (27:01.06), Cohen Frost (27:02.57) and Eric Reynolds (27:20.92).

The Quakers look to continue the good start to the season in Springfield, Ohio, next weekend at the Wittenberg Invitational.
