Cross Country Returns as 2021 Season Kicks Off at OWU Relays

Story by David Wahl III

WILMINGTON, Ohio - The Wilmington College men's cross country team and Head Coach Ron Combs have been waiting for this moment. After a postponed 2020 season due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the 2021 cross country season kicks off in Delaware, Ohio. It is not a traditional cross country meet, as Wilmington and Ohio Wesleyan will be splitting up their teams into two person teams. Each person of the duo team will run 3x1 mile, alternating each mile.

The Race: The men will kick off the relay at 6:15 PM.

The Teams: Wilmington will be joined by host and sole competitor Ohio Wesleyan University.

The Coach: Ron Combs enters his 26th season as head cross country coach at Wilmington College. A 1993 graduate of Wilmington, Combs was a member of the only cross country team to win a conference title in school history. Also the head track & field coach at the College, Combs led the Fightin' Quakers to two top-10 finishes nationally with a sixth place finish at the 2002 NCAA Division III Men's Indoor Track & Field Championships and a seventh place mark at the 2004 Women's Indoor Track & Field Championships.

Coverage: Results will be available after the conclusion of the race.
