Men's Soccer Looks for Bounce Back Game at BW on Saturday

WILMINGTON, Ohio – The Wilmington College men's soccer team looks to bounce back from its first defeat of the season when the Fightin' Quakers head to Berea for an 8 p.m. contest at Baldwin Wallace University on Saturday. 

The Teams: Wilmington and Baldwin Wallace (BW). The Fightin' Quakers are 10-1-3 overall and 3-1-2 in Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) competition after a 3-2 loss to No. 6 Otterbein University at Williams Stadium on Wednesday evening. The Yellow Jackets are 6-9-2 overall and winless in conference play after a 2-1 defeat at John Carroll University on Wednesday.

The Coaches: Alex Van der Sluijs is in his fourth year leading Wilmington's men's soccer team. The 2007 alumnus, who was a three-time First Team All-OAC selection and a member of the program's only team to win an OAC title in 2004, got the program within a shootout victory of playing for an OAC Tournament title in the spring of 2021. He worked at Defiance College for seven seasons. Reid Ayers, one of the longest tenured coaches in the conference, has been BW's head man for the past two decades

The Players: Seniors Yusef Muqtadir and Elorm Dogbey lead the Quaker offense combining for 16 goals and five assists. Muqtadir is second in the conference in goals scored with nine. Jeffry Vasquez isn't far behind with six goals and three assists while goalkeeper Felix Maurer surrenders 0.77 goals per contest. Julian Kieres has a team-best 18 points (seven goals and four assists) for the Yellow Jackets while Nick Surowicz is second on the squad with four goals.
