Men's Soccer Heads to Otterbein for Key OAC Matchup Thursday

WILMINGTON, Ohio - The Wilmington College men's soccer team travels to Otterbein University on Thursday for an Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) matchup with the Cardinals. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.

The Teams: Wilmington and Otterbein. The Fightin' Quakers bring a 4-1-0 record to the matchup having edged both Ohio Northern University and Marietta College by 1-0 margins. The Cardinals are 2-2-1 on the season and most recently defeated Heidelberg University 1-0 at home. Otterbein has played three overtime games thus far and is an even 1-1-1 in those contests.

The Coaches: Alex Van der Sluijs is in his third year leading Wilmington's men's soccer team. The 2007 alumnus, who was a three-time First Team All-OAC selection and a member of the program's only team to win an OAC title in 2004, worked at Defiance College for seven seasons. Jason Griffiths is in his fourth season as Otterbein's head coach. The University of Kentucky graduate has led the Cardinals to a 40-18 record during his tenure including a trip to the NCAA Division III Tournament in 2017, his first year at the helm.

The Players: Elorm Dogbey leads Wilmington offensively with four goals, two assists and 10 total points on just nine shots. Zach Burgmeier and Ian Molfenter have also netted multiple goals while goalkeeper Felix Maurer has 16 saves, has been a part of four shutouts, and boasts a goals against average of 0.42. Will Isaac has two goals to lead the Otterbein offense while Nathan Neal and Seth Smith have each found the back of the net once.

Series History: Wilmington is 11-15-1 against Otterbein since becoming an NCAA Division III member in the early 1990s. The Cardinals have won seven of the last 10 meetings. More information on the series history can be viewed by visiting the link above.
