WILMINGTON, Ohio - The Wilmington College men's soccer team will put its undefeated record on the line Sunday when the Fightin' Quakers take on the University of Mount Union for a 2 p.m. contest in Alliance.
The Teams: Wilmington and Mount Union. The Quakers are 2-0-0 on the 2021 spring season with a pair of 5-0 victories over Heidelberg University and Muskingum University. The Purple Raiders are 0-1-0 after falling 3-1 at Otterbein University in the season-opener. Mount Union's contest with John Carroll was cancelled.
The Coaches: Alex Van der Sluijs is in his third year leading Wilmington's men's soccer team. The 2007 alumnus, who was a three-time First Team All-OAC selection and a member of the program's only team to win an OAC title in 2004, worked at Defiance College for seven seasons. David Krems is in his first season as Mount Union's head men's soccer coach. He is no stranger to Northeast Ohio having played at Hiram College for four years.
The Players: Ian Molfenter and Elorm Dogbey combine to score half of the Quakers' goals this season with Dogbey leading the squad with three goals and two assists. Zach Burgmeier, Ryan Forino, Tusef Muqtadir, Michael Owusu and Jeffry Vasquez each have a single goal. Ryan Wikle leads Mount Union in shots with five and scored the lone goal for the Purple Raiders.
Series History: Wilmington is 13-8-2 against Mount Union since becoming an NCAA Division III member in the early 1990s. More information on the series history can be viewed by visiting the link above.
