Men's Soccer Looks to Return to Winning Ways Against ONU Thursday

WILMINGTON, Ohio - The Wilmington College men's soccer team will look to bounce back from a narrow loss when Ohio Northern University (ONU) comes to Williams Stadium for a 7 p.m. contest.

The Teams: Wilmington and Ohio Northern. The Fightin' Quakers are 2-1-0 on the season after a 2-1 loss at the University of Mount Union on Sunday. The Polar Bears are 1-1-1 on the year after a 5-0 victory of Muskingum University on the weekend.

The Coaches: Alex Van der Sluijs is in his third year leading Wilmington's men's soccer team. The 2007 alumnus, who was a three-time First Team All-OAC selection and a member of the program's only team to win an OAC title in 2004, worked at Defiance College for seven seasons. Chris Matejka is in his second season as ONU's head men's soccer team. He led his alma mater to a 13-6-3 record in the fall 2019.

The Players: Ian Molfenter and Elorm Dogbey combine to score nearly half of the Quakers' goals this season with Dogbey leading the squad with three goals and two assists. Zach Burgmeier is the other Quakers to score multiple goals having netted the team's score at Mount Union. Seth Gundlach and Levi King have both tallied six points to lead the Polar Bears offensively while Zach Yoder joins Gundlach in dishing out two assists each.

Series History: Wilmington is 15-8-1 against ONU since becoming an NCAA Division III member in the early 1990s including winning the last matchup with a late goal. More information on the series history can be viewed by visiting the link above.
