Women's Soccer Face Reigning OAC Champs Otterbein Wednesday

WILMINGTON, Ohio - The Wilmington College women's soccer team faces defending Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) champion Otterbein Wednesday. First touch is scheduled for 7 p.m. in Westerville. 

The Teams: Wilmington and Otterbein. Wilmington is 5-7-2 overall and 2-2-1 in OAC play. The Quakers last match resulted in a draw with Marietta. Otterbein is 11-1-0 overall and have won all five of its OAC contests. 

The Coaches: Steve Spirk returns to coach his 30th year for the Wilmington women's soccer team. Spirk has led the Quakers to six NCAA Division III Tournament appearances including five berths in the regional semifinal ("Sweet 16") round. Six Wilmington teams have claimed regular season conference titles under Spirk's tutelage including three OAC titles in a span of four years from 2000-03. The Cardinals head coach, Brandon Koons, has led Otterbein to 10 OAC regular season championships in his 22 years at the helm of the women's soccer program. Coach Koons has won seven OAC tournament titles. 

The Players: Eight different Quakers have found the back of the net this season. Maddie Scott, Heidi Edens and Courtney Ryan have all scored multiple goals with Maddie Scott leading the way with three goals. Otterbein's Delaney Earl has scored 13 goals this season to go along with six assists. Junior midfielder Grace Weidenhammer has dished out six assists. 

Series History: Wilmington is 0-10 in the last ten meetings, the most recent Quaker victory came in the 2012-2013 season. More information on the series history can be viewed by visiting the link above.
