Women's Soccer Opens Home Stand With Franklin on Saturday

WILMINGTON, Ohio - The Wilmington College women's soccer team opens a four-game most stand by hosting Franklin College for a 7 p.m. contest on Saturday evening.

The Teams: Wilmington and Franklin. The Fightin' Quakers enter the game with a 1-5-1 overall record and looking to rebound after a 7-0 defeat at the hands of the College of Wooster on Saturday. The Grizzlies are 1-5-0 overall and most recently fell to Albion College 1-0 in overtime on Wednesday.

The Coaches: Steve Spirk returns to coach his 30th year for the Wilmington women's soccer team. Spirk has led the Quakers to six NCAA Division III Tournament appearances including five berths in the regional semifinal ("Sweet 16") round. Six Wilmington teams have claimed regular season conference titles under Spirk's tutelage including three OAC titles in a span of four years from 2000-03. Kim DeCesare, a graduate of Duke University, is in her third season as Franklin's head coach.

The Players: Maddie Scott leads Wilmington offensively with two goals while four other Quakers – Tiffany Hayes, Jenna Victor, Ema Menges and Courtney Ryan – have all scored a single goal. In goal, Lauren Galloway has made 34 saves and played 640 minutes. Through five games, Franklin has netted just a single goal, coming off the foot of Elaina Page in a 1-0 win over St. Mary's College (Indiana) on Sept. 12.

Series History: Wilmington is 3-3-0 against Franklin since the 1998 season, but the Grizzles have won the previous three meetings. More information on the series history can be viewed by visiting the link above.
