Women's Soccer Travels to Earlham for Quaker Bowl Rivalry on Wednesday

SERIES HISTORY

WILMINGTON, Ohio - The Wilmington College women's soccer team heads to Earlham College for the Quaker Bowl Rivalry game on Wednesday. Kickoff from Matlack-Messer Stadium is slated for 4 p.m.

The Teams: Wilmington and Earlham. The Fightin' Quakers enter the game with an 0-4-1 record after a scoreless draw with Anderson University (Indiana) on Saturday. The Hustlin' Quakers are 1-3-0 having most recently fallen 3-0 to Heidelberg University at home, also on Saturday.

The Coaches: Steve Spirk returns to coach his 30th year for the Wilmington women's soccer team. Spirk has led the Quakers to six NCAA Division III Tournament appearances including five berths in the regional semifinal ("Sweet 16") round. Six Wilmington teams have claimed regular season conference titles under Spirk's tutelage including three OAC titles in a span of four years from 2000-03. Lydia Harvey, a 2019 EC graduate, is the program's interim head coach for the 2021 fall season.

The Players: Maddie Scott, Jenna Victor and Courtney Ryan have scored the Quakers' goals thus far this season. Scott leads the team in shots with 15 while goalkeeper Lauren Galloway has tallied 24 saves in five games. Tess Cunningham and Eva Lyon have scored the goals for Earlham through three games while Makayla Hurey has a team-best 16 saves in net.

Series History: Wilmington is 8-2-1 against Earlham since becoming an NCAA Division III member in the early 1990s. The Fightin' Quakers are currently on a seven-game winning streak in the rivalry. More information on the series history can be viewed by visiting the link above.

Quaker Bowl Rivalry: Prior to the 2017-18 academic year, the athletics departments of Earlham College and Wilmington College announced the re-creation of the Quaker Bowl. Originally a trophy for just football and men's basketball contests, the bowl is now competed for across all sports in which Earlham and Wilmington play each other. Wilmington won the 2019-20 Quaker Bowl 7-4.
