@DubC_LQB Preview: Mount Union

The Wilmington College women's basketball team looks to rebound from a heartbreaking home overtime loss Wednesday to #7 Ohio Northern. The Fightin' Quakers travel to Alliance 3 p.m. Saturday to face Mount Union. 

SERIES: Wilmington leads the overall series, 23-12, but the series has been even over the last three and half seasons. WC, on the strength of the 76-56 win earlier this season, has won four of the last seven.

LAST MEETING: The Wilmington College women's basketball team shot 44.4 percent from the field, and opened Ohio Athletic Conference action with the 76-56 victory over Mount Union on December 3 in Fred Raizk Arena at Hermann Court.

Wilmington went on a 23-4 run during a six-minute stretch of the first period to build a 17-point advantage.  The Fightin' Quakers defensive limited Mount Union to just 20 percent (3-of-15) from the field in the quarter. The lead never got below double figures.

WC forced 19 turnovers and held Mount Union to just 29.7 percent (19-of-64) from the field, and a paltry 19.4 percent (6-of-31) from beyond the arc.

Sophomore Mackenzie Campbell and senior Brittaney Jefferson combined for 41 points on 12-of-24 shooting with 15 rebounds, four steals and one assist to lead the Fightin' Quakers.

MEET THE PURPLE RAIDERS: Mount Union is in the midst of a three-game losing streak, and has lost five of their last six games. It is coming off a 81-75 double-overtime road loss to John Carroll.

In the loss to JCU, three players – led by Abbey Bartoszewicz – reached double figures. The guard finished with 15 points. Two players, Jaime Sanborn (11 points, 11 rebounds) and Erin White (12 points, 10 rebounds, recorded double-doubles.

Bartoszewicz leads the team with 12.2 points, shooting 34,5 percent from the field. Her 7.4 three-point attempts per game is the most for any player. White is second on the team with 10.7 and a team-high 7.9 boards.

PLAY FOR KAY: The game marks Mount Union's Play for Kay, Breast Cancer Awareness Game. Donations for the foundation will be accepted in lieu of admission.

FIGHT FOR SECOND: Wilmington and Baldwin Wallace are currently tied for second place, three games behind league-leader Ohio Northern. The two teams meet in Berea for the regular season finale on February 18. In addition, the Yellow Jackets travel to Ohio Northern on February 1.

The two teams currently hold a three-game lead on Capital and Muskingum.

1,000 POINTS: Senior Brittaney Jefferson is the 14th player in school history to reach 1,000 points, and the first since Kortney Kin achieved the feat in 2010. 

CAMPBELL'S SOUP: Sophomore Mackenzie Campbell leads the team and is fourth in the conference with 15.7 points per game. Campbell has scored at least 10 points in all but two games this season. She has scored at least 20 points five times this season, including a career-high 28 against Heidelberg (Jan. 21).

She is third in the league, and is the top guard, making 51.2 percent of her shots. 

PROUD MARY: Senior Mary Moyer leads the OAC in rebounding with 9.3 boards, including a career-high 18 rebounds earlier this season. She has three double-doubles this season and 10 in her career. Moyer had a string of three consecutive double-figure rebounding games come to an end against ONU. She has eight double-figure rebounding efforts this year.

IT'S A COLE WORLD: Senior Ja'Cole Tabor comes off the bench to provide the Fightin' Quakers with whatever is needed. A natural wing, Tabor has played all five positions this season.  

SCORING: Wilmington College is fifth in the OAC, scoring 67.4 points per game, and fourth in scoring defense – allowing 60.3 points per game.
