The Wilmington College women's basketball team takes on its second ranked team this season, traveling to Ohio Northern, 3 p.m. Wednesday.
SERIES: Wilmington leads the overall series, 20-18, however, Ohio Northern has dominated the recent portion of the slate. The Polar Bears have won 10 of the last 11 meetings.
THE LAST TIME: It was pretty much two different games played over the course of 40 minutes as the Wilmington College women's basketball team fell to No. 13 Ohio Northern Wednesday in Ohio Athletic Conference action at Fred Raizk Arena in Hermann Court.
Wilmington trailed by just three points at the break in a 20-minute portion that featured five fouls called and two free throws attempted. The pace and defensive nature saw the teams combine to score 41 points.
After the teams came back from halftime, the game changed. The teams were called for 33 fouls, and combined to attempt 43 free throws.
Ohio Northern was a perfect 11-for-11 in the game-deciding third quarter. The Polar Bears outscored Wilmington, 27-12, and led by 18 heading into the final period.
Ellie Kivell finished with a season-high 16 points with two rebounds to lead the Fightin' Quakers. Mary Moyer added 11 points and a team-high nine rebounds, while Mackenzie Campbell finished with 11 points and four rebounds.
MEET THE POLAR BEARS: Ohio Northern, ranked 18th by D3hoops.com and 14th by the WBCA, comes into the game unbeaten at 6-0 following its 65-57 victory over Capital Saturday.
Junior Lindsey Black came off the bench to score a game-high 14 points. Three other players – Amy Bullimore, Britt Lauck and Jenna Dirksen – all reached double figures.
Lauck, a senior guard, is leading the team and fifth in the OAC with 15.2 points and 4.2 assists. Bullimore adds the inside presence for the Polar Bears, averaging 12.0 points and a team-high 7.7 rebounds. Bullimore is fifth in the OAC in rebounding.
Junior guard Courtney Cramer is third in the conference, hitting 45.8 percent of her three-point shots.
As a team, Ohio Northern is second in the league, scoring 73.2 points per game and is second in points allowed, 53.0 points.
PRESEASON POLL: Wilmington was picked to finish third in the Ohio Athletic Conference preseason poll behind reigning OAC regular season champion Ohio Northern and Baldwin Wallace.
WELCOME BACK: Senior Ashley Andracki returns for her fifth year after missing all of the 2015-16 season with an injury. She has stabilized the Wilmington offense, averaging 5.8 points with a team-high 15 assists. Andracki is 10th in the league with a 2.3 assist to turnover ratio.
FRESHMAN ALL-AMERICAN: Sophomore guard Mackenzie Campbell returns after earning freshman All-American honors from Women's DIII News. The reigning OAC Player of the Week tallied 23 points in win over Earlham and 25 points in the win over Mount Union. She leads the team with 17.4 points and is second with 5.4 rebounds.
GIFT OF GIVING: Wilmington is third in the OAC with 14.8 assists per game.
TAKING CARE OF THE BALL: Junior Savannah Hooper leads in the league in assist to turnover ratio at 6.0 with six assists and one turnover. She is also third on the team with 9.4 points and leads the team with 11 three pointers.
