All 12 players scored as the Wilmington College women's basketball team routed Marietta, 90-60, Saturday in Ohio Athletic Conference action at Fred Raizk Arena in Hermann Court.
Four players reached double figures, and the 90 points were the most scored in regulation since Wilmington dropped 91 on John Carroll late in the 2010-2011 season. The Fightin' Quakers and Marietta combined for 205 points in a 103-102 double overtime victory two seasons ago which represents that last time Wilmington scored at least 90 points in a game.
"We really played well today in all phases; offense, defense and following our game plan," said Wilmington head coach Jerry Scheve. "Twenty-eight assists with 13 turnovers for a team that was last in the league in assists and assist to turnover ratio, I think, shows we have come a long way. We are going to keep working on it to get better."
Wilmington blitzed the Pioneers from the start offensively, assisting on its first nine baskets, and 10 of the 11 first-quarter field goals. The Fightin' Quakers shot 78.6 percent (11-of-14) in the quarter in opening up the 25-8 lead after 10 minutes.
With the efficient offense, WC forced Marietta to mix some zone into their defensive repertoire. However, it didn't really slow down the Fightin' Quakers as they converted 62.7 percent of their shots over the first three quarters. None of Wilmington's starters played the fourth quarter.
"Yesterday in practice we ran our halfcourt offense better than we have run it all year, and I was hoping there would be some carryover to today – and I think there was," said Scheve. "The nice thing was everyone that played scored, and everyone played significant minutes. That is going to help each of them and our team down the road. In the first half and third quarter, it didn't matter who was on the court, we never had a letdown the entire time. That is the kind of depth we are looking for, and looking to develop."
Sophomore Mackenzie Campbell (Cincinnati, OH/Turpin) led the four players in double figures with 15 points, 13 in the first half, with five rebounds, three blocks and a steal. Junior Savannah Hooper (Leesburg, OH/Wilmington) reached double digits for the second time this season with 12 points on four three-pointers.
Senior Mary Moyer (Martinsville, OH/Clinton Massie) added 12 points, six assists, two rebounds, two blocks and two steals, while senior Ashley Andracki (Columbus, OH/Bishop Watterson) dished out a career-high seven assists with 10 points and three rebounds. Senior Brittaney Jefferson (Dayton, OH/Chaminade Julienne) had a career-high five steals and a season-high eight boards.
Wilmington (6-2 overall, 3-1 OAC) hosts the 2016 Fred Raizk Memorial Classic Tuesday and Wednesday. The Fightin' Quakers play Alma 6 p.m. Tuesday, followed by defending National Champion Thomas More and Ohio Christian at 8 p.m.
