GENEVA, Ohio – The Wilmington College women's swimming team tallied two All-Ohio Athletic Conference performances on the second day of the 2021 OAC Swimming and Diving Championships on Friday.
Macki Leon narrowly missed yet another school record, finishing third in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:00.07 to earn her second All-OAC honor individually. Teammates Ashley Carlson (1:04.46) and Hannah Davis (1:05.36) also made the championship final in the event, placing seventh and eighth respectively. Three other Quakers – Anna Endsley, Audrey Bibb and Kadie Grundy – competed in the consolation final of the 100-yard backstroke. Endsley won that heat with a time of 1:05.07 while Bibb (1:07.54) and Grundy (1:08.13) finished sixth and seventh respectively.
Wilmington's other All-OAC swim came in the 800-yard freestyle relay with the team of Leon, Davis, Endsley and Margaret Hover. The Quakers cleared fourth-place Baldwin Wallace University by over three seconds with a new school record of 8:13.67 to bring home the All-OAC recognition.
The Quakers had two individuals make the evening finals in the 100-yard butterfly. Maryn Herring took eighth in the championship final with a mark of 1:02.76 while Lauryn White placed sixth in the consolation final by touching the wall in 1:15.36. Symone Daniels (1:19.11) and Ashley Boone (1:33.65) represented Wilmington in the consolation final of the 100-yard breaststroke by taking fourth and sixth respectively.
Other individual finishes for Wilmington on Friday included Hover's seventh-place finish (5:41.43) in the consolation final of the 200-yard freestyle and Alyssa Harper's swim of 5:41.43 in the consolation final of the 400-yard IM that placed seventh as well.
Wilmington's 200-yard medley relay team of Leon, Emma Thompson, Herring and Davis placed fifth with a time of 1:57.13.
As a team, the Quakers are in fifth after two days of competition with 201 points. The final day, Saturday, begins with morning prelims at 10 a.m. and finals at 6 p.m.
