Softball Travels to ONU Riding Six-Game Win Streak

SERIES HISTORY

WILMINGTON, Ohio – The Wilmington College softball team continue Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) play with a trip to Ohio Northern University (ONU) for a two-game series set to begin at 3 p.m. on Tuesday.

The Teams: Wilmington and ONU. The Fightin' Quakers are 14-4 overall and 2-2 in conference play after sweeping John Carroll University on Monday. The Polar Bears are 7-9 on the season, 1-1 in conference play and most recently split a series with the College of Wooster last Wednesday. ONU was supposed to face Capital University on the road on Monday, but that game got pushed back to Wednesday due to weather.

The Coaches: Beth Floyd is in her 12th season as Wilmington's softball head coach. She is the winningest softball coach in school history and is also the College's associate director of athletics. Floyd has led the Quakers to seven double-digit win campaigns as well as the program's first winning season with a 20-16 record in 2013. Jackie (Mangola) Price, a 2012 alumna of the program, is in her third season as ONU's head coach. The Polar Bears won 32 games in 2018 under her guidance.

The Hitters: Both Hayley Suchland and Allison Pierce are hitting over a .425 clip for Wilmington including Suchland's .466 batting average after a 4-for-4 performance in game two against JCU yesterday. KenDahl Bowles and Alecia Kemp, who both hit over .350, lead the squad in RBIs with 16 and 15 respectively. Brady Guest carries a .481 batting average for ONU as well as leading the Polar Bears in doubles (four), home runs (three) and RBIs (15).

The Pitchers: Grace Shell and Alexis Stringfellow have combined to pitch the majority of innings for Wilmington through nearly half the season. Shell leads the team in innings pitched (62.0), complete games (eight), wins (seven), strikeouts (54) and ERA (1.02) while Stringfellow has a 5-1 record with a 2.48 ERA. Kaitlin Surdej has pitched nearly two-third of ONU's innings has a 3.39 ERA with 42 strikeouts.

OAC Players of the Week: Both Grace Shell and Allison Pierce took home OAC Pitcher and Hitter of the Week honors respectively last week.
