Softball to Battle Berea on the Road Tuesday

WILMINGTON, Ohio – The Wilmington College softball team travels to Berea College for a non-conference doubleheader on Tuesday. First pitch is slated for 4 p.m.

The Teams: Wilmington and Berea. The Fightin' Quakers enter the series with a 10-4 overall record after sweeping Albion College 4-0 and 5-1 on Sunday. The Mountaineers are 5-13 on the season having dropped a doubleheader at home to Piedmont College on Saturday.

The Coaches: Beth Floyd will begin her 12th season as Wilmington's softball head coach. She is the winningest softball coach in school history and is also the College's associate director of athletics. Floyd has led the Quakers to seven double-digit win campaigns as well as the program's first winning season with a 20-16 record in 2013. Nicole Yost, formerly the head coach at SUNY Potsdam, is in her first season as Berea's head coach.

The Hitters: Hayley Suchland and Allison Pierce lead Wilmington offensively as both bat over a .400 clip with Suchland leading the team in stolen bases with five and Pierce tied with Megan Crager with a team-best four doubles. KenDahl Bowles and Alecia Kemp, who both hit over .350, lead the Quakers in RBIs with 13 and 11 respectively. Ashley Spencer has 23 hits for Berea while Audreonna Lindsey has hit seven doubles, three triples, one home run and drive in a dozen runs.

The Pitchers: Grace Shell, once named the OAC Pitcher of the Week, has a 1.27 ERA and a 5-1 record in 44 innings pitched. The sophomore leads Wilmington in strikeouts with 39 and complete games with six. Alexis Stringfellow has a 3-1 record in 24 innings pitched while Suchland has 20 strikeouts and a 2-2 record in 25.1 innings. Jacqui Howard and Kara Winchester have pitched every inning for the Mountaineers. The duo combines to average over an earned run per inning.

Series History: Wilmington has not played Berea in the last decade.
