Softball Opens OAC Play at Muskingum, Hosts Albion This Weekend

SERIES HISTORY - MUSKINGUM | ALBION

WILMINGTON, Ohio – The Wilmington College softball team opens Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) play with a doubleheader at Muskingum University on Saturday. The Fightin' Quakers will then turnaround and host Albion College for two games on Sunday. First pitch on Saturday is scheduled for 2 p.m. with the Sunday doubleheader slated for 1 p.m.

The Teams: Wilmington, Muskingum and Albion. The Quakers are 8-2 on the season after tying a program record with an 8-2 mark on its spring trip to Florida. The Fighting Muskies are 10-2 overall and will face Wittenberg University on Tuesday while the Britons are 6-8 on the year and will face Bluffton University on Thursday.

The Coaches: Beth Floyd will begin her 12th season as Wilmington's softball head coach. She is the winningest softball coach in school history and is also the College's associate director of athletics. Floyd has led the Quakers to seven double-digit win campaigns as well as the program's first winning season with a 20-16 record in 2013. Kari Winters, a former Muskingum All-American, enters her 10th season leading her alma mater. Leigh Ann LaFave, a two-time Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Most Valuable Player, enters her fourth season as Albion's head coach.

The Hitters: Wilmington features four players who boast a batting average over .400 including Megan Crager who batted a .441 clip with three doubles. Allison Pierce and Mariyah Burkhardt both hit .417 in Florida with Pierce driving in a squad-best four doubles. Hayley Suchland also hit over .400 while KenDahl Bowles leads the Quakers in RBIs with 11. Haley Hawk and Krissy Hughes both hit over .500 for Muskingum along with driving in double-digit runs. Hawk has 13 RBIs while Hughs has stolen 13 bases. The Albion duo of Estacia Martinez and Grace Connolly combine for 29 RBIs while Martinez has a team-best .525 batting average.

The Pitchers: Grace Shell, the reigning OAC Pitcher of the Week, boasts a 0.74 ERA and a 4-0 record for Wilmington while Hayley Suchland and Alexis Stringfellow also have ERAs under 3.50. Muskingum features a three-headed pitching attack as Rachel Eberling, Hannah Duff and Hannah Smith have all pitched over 19 innings with ERAs under 2.25 while Morgan Deckrow and Eryn VanderVlucht split the pitching duties for Albion.

OAC Pitcher of the Week: Grace Shell earned her second career OAC Pitcher of the Week honors for her performance on the Quakers' spring trip to Florida.
