WILMINGTON, Ohio – Wilmington College Head Softball Coach Beth Floyd has announced several additions to the softball coaching staff on Wednesday.

Jessie Madzia has joined the program as an assistant coach while Sawyer and Savannah Hooper, who both concluded their Fightin' Quaker playing careers last season, will serve in the roles of volunteer assistant coach and student assistant coach respectively.

Madzia comes to Wilmington after a highly successful playing career at NCAA Division III member Bluffton University. Both a field player and a pitcher, Madzia started in 110 games during her Beaver career. In the pitching circle, Madzia won 20 career games along with posting an earned run average (ERA) of under 2.50 in her first three seasons. As a hitter, she tallied 14 home runs.

The Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) honored Madzia with All-HCAC honors three times including First Team honors in 2015. She was also named Pitcher of the Week four times throughout her career.

"I am looking forward to working with Coach Madzia as she is a great addition to our coaching staff," Head Softball Coach Beth Floyd said. "Coach Madzia comes from a strong softball background and will have an immediate positive impact on our program."

A 2018 graduate of Bluffton, Madzia earned a degree in social work. She served as Vice President of Bluffton's Social Work Club for a year as well as interned at the Family Resource Center of Northwest Ohio for the last six months.

"I am extremely excited to be joining Coach Floyd's staff and be a part of the Wilmington College softball program," Madzia said. "I look forward to working pursuing the vision that this program has in place."

Sawyer Hooper, who graduated in May, returns to the program after a four-year playing career. Sawyer had a .307 career batting average as well as a .979 fielding percentage playing primarily catcher.

Savannah Hooper, a three-time All-Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) honoree, ended her playing career as the program leader in career batting average at .381. She also finished in the top five in stolen bases (72) and runs scored (82).

"To be successful you surround yourself with good people, and Sawyer [Hooper] and Savannah [Hooper] are two of the best," said Floyd. "I am looking forward to working with Coach Madzia, Coach Breeden, Coach Sawyer and Coach Savannah as we mold our young team for a successful future."

Wilmington finished the 2018 season with a 13-21 overall record, the seventh double-digit win campaign under Floyd's leadership.
