Softball Travels to Mount Union Thursday

SERIES HISTORY

WILMINGTON, Ohio – The Wilmington College softball team continues a late-season road trip on Friday when the Fightin' Quakers face the University of Mount Union in an Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) doubleheader on Thursday. First pitch from the 23rd Street Field is slated for 3 p.m.

The Teams: Wilmington and Mount Union. The Fightin' Quakers are 17-11 overall and 5-9 in OAC competition after falling in two one-run games at Capital University on Tuesday. The Purple Raiders are 17-15 and also 5-9 in conference play after sweeping John Carroll University on the road on Tuesday.

The Coaches: Beth Floyd is in her 12th season as Wilmington's softball head coach. She is the winningest softball coach in school history and is also the College's associate director of athletics. Floyd has led the Quakers to seven double-digit win campaigns as well as the program's first winning season with a 20-16 record in 2013. Meghan Simons, a 2010 alumna of Mount Union, is in her fourth season as the Purple Raiders' head coach.

The Hitters: Hayley Suchland leads Wilmington in batting average as the freshman hits a .407 clip as well as leading the squad in hits with 37 and stolen bases with nine. Allison Pierce, who has a team-high 10 doubles, and KenDahl Bowles have both driven in 18 runs while Megan Crager and Alecia Kemp both hit over a .300 clip. Maggie Dominick has driven in 24 rounds for Mount Union to go along with her .372 batting average. Maddie Pidgeon has hit a dozen doubles for the Purple Raiders.

The Pitchers: Despite taking two losses at Capital on Wednesday, Grace Shell boasts a 9-6 record and a 2.26 ERA in 93 innings pitched. The sophomore, along with leading Wilmington in the aforementioned categories, has 77 strikeouts. Hunter Salyers and Alexis Stringfellow also have ERAs below 3.20. Alexandra Pasco and Peyton Morrison have split the majority of the pitching duties for Mount Union as both have pitched over 70 innings. Pasco leads the Purple Raiders with 67 strikeouts.
