Simon Heys Named OAC Men's Cross Country Runner of the Week

WESTERVILLE, Ohio - Wilmington College men's cross country junior Simon Heys has been named the Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) Men's Cross Country Runner of the Week, the league announced on Monday.

Heys, a graduate of Wilmington High School, won the Mike Baumer Cross Country Classic in Fairborn, Ohio, last Friday. He turned in a time of 15:01 to win the five-kilometer race against entirely competition on athletic scholarship as the Fightin' Quakers were the only NCAA Division III team in attendance.

"Simon has put in a lot of work this summer to prepare for the season and ran a nice opening race at Wright State," Head Men's Cross Country Coach Ron Combs said. "Last year at this time, he was flying under the radar. This year, people know who he is and they know he's a good runner, so it's impressive to watch him continue to progress to even better levels as a competitor."

Heys, who was a cross country All-American in 2021, and the Quakers return to action at the Heidelberg University Invitational on Friday evening.
