Burnam second after day one heptathlon events

GRANVILLE- Juinor Pierce Burnam (New Richmond, OH/New Richmond) is the lone competitor for the Wilmington College men's track and field team in the All-Ohio Combined Events Championship hosted by Denison University on Saturday and Sunday.

Of the offered events, Burnam will be competing in the heptathlon with eight others. The events of the heptathlon are divided into two days. Saturday's events include: the 60-meter dash, high jump, long jump, and shot put. On Sunday, the student-athletes will complete the: 60-meter hurdles, pole vault, and 1000-meter run.

Burnam's highest-place finish in Saturday's events came from the high jump, in which he tied for second, clearing a height of 1.83m. In addition, Burnam snagged a fourth-place finish in both the 60-meter dash (7.51) and the long jump (5.85m), and a fifth-place finish in the shot put (9.97m).

With those finishes, he accumulated a total of 2401 points, and is currently ranked second going into the final three events. This point total is 35 points ahead of his WC record setting total in the same four events at the Oiler Opener in December.

To break his record (4376 points), Burnam will have to conclude tomorrow with at least 1976 points.
