BEREA- The Wilmington College men's track and field team competed in the final day of the Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) Indoor Track and Field Championship Saturday. The event, hosted by Baldwin Wallace University, started on Friday with several field event finals, as well as many running event prelims. Saturday saw the finals of all of Friday's preliminary events, as well as the finals of all events that were not contested on Friday.

The Fightin' Quakers rallied after a zero point first day, to finish the meet seventh of ten teams, with a total of 32 points.  

HOW IT HAPPENED

• In the finals of the men's 500-meter run, junior Pierce Burnam (New Richmond, OH/New Richmond) finished fourth, with a time of 1:06.58- two tenths of a second faster than his preliminary time. Burnam also scored a fourth-place finish in the 55-meter hurdles with a time of 7.89- again, two tenths of a second faster than his preliminary time.

• The 4x200-meter relay broke into the meet's top-ten, with a seventh-place finish. Freshman Aaron Koch (Goshen, OH/Goshen), sophomore Eric Flynn, Jr. (Cleveland, OH/Central Catholic), and senior Travis Scheadler (Goshen, OH/Goshen) teamed up with Burnam for the event and finished in 1:34.58.

• Koch and Burnam then paired up with freshmen Kaner Butler (Yellow Springs, OH/Yellow Springs) and Adam Knaub for the 4x400-meter relay. The team finished fifth, crossing the finish line in 3:31.17.

• Of the day's field events, junior Antone Truss (Yellow Springs, OH/Yellow Springs) turned in the team's top finish with his second-place finish in the high jump. Truss cleared a height of 2.01-meters to achieve this place.

• To end the meet, three Fightin' Quakers snagged top-ten finishes in the triple jump. Butler jumped the furthest of the three, earning fifth, with a jump of 13.05-meters. The next furthest distance came from Burnam who jumped 13.04-meters to earn sixth. Truss closed out the point-earning finishes for the team in this event with his eighth-place, 12.34-meter, jump.

• "I was really proud of our team this weekend. We had a small group of qualifiers, but the kids gave a great effort. I thought we did a great job of taking advantage of the opportunities we had to score. We left a few points out there, but for the most part, I thought our team did a great job."

WHAT'S NEXT

• For many, this meet marks the end of the indoor season, but some will continue on to the last chance meet hosted by Ohio Northern on Friday and Saturday in an attempt to better their chances of qualifying for the NCAA DIII Indoor Championship.
