Men's Swimming Competes on Day Two of OAC Championships

GENEVA, Ohio - The Wilmington College men's swimming team had a plethora of individuals competing in the Friday evening finals of the 2021 Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) Swimming and Diving Championships held at the Spire Institute.

Cameron Bolen highlighted the Fightin' Quakers' individual performances with a seventh-place finish in the championship final of the 100-yard breaststroke. The freshman, once named OAC Men's Swimmer of the Week, touched the wall in 59.08 seconds. Bolen wasn't the only Quaker to compete in the 100-yard breaststroke as four others swum in the consolation finals. Ian Darras took third (1:04.65), Samuel Shanes placed fifth (1:06.69), Luke Ruther finished sixth (1:07.15) and Noah Arend was seventh (1:10.92).

Wilmington was also well represented in the consolation final of the 100-yard backstroke as four Quakers - Michael Phillippe (56.00 seconds), Dane Klosterman (57.00 seconds), Reed Ashcraft (58.49 seconds) and Samuel Wallace (1:00.15) - placed fourth, fifth, sixth and seventh respectively. Other individual finishes included Darron Crump's third-place finish in the consolation final of the 200-yard freestyle (2:24.40) and Aaron Polk's sixth-place mark of 55.45 seconds in the 100-yard butterfly.

The Quakers' relay teams turned in a fourth-place finish in the 200-yard medley relay and a fifth-place finish in the 800-yard freestyle relay. Wilmington's team of Phillippe, Bolen, Polk and Klosterman tapped the wall in 1:39.00 in the 200-yard medley relay while Phillippe and Polk teamed up with Ashcraft and Logan Schroer to turn in a mark of 7:37.73 in the 800-yard freestyle relay.

Wilmington sits in fifth place after two days of competition. Day three, the final day, begins at 10 a.m. on Saturday.
