Football Heads to No. 2 Mount Union on Saturday

WILMINGTON, Ohio – The Wilmington College football team heads to Alliance, Ohio, to take on the University of Mount Union on Saturday. The Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) contest is slated for a 1:30 p.m. kickoff from Kehres Stadium. 

The Teams: Wilmington and Mount Union. The Fightin' Quakers are an even 3-3 on the season and looking to rebound from a pair of shutouts at the hands of John Carroll University and Marietta College. The Purple Raiders are undefeated and most recently beat Capital University 49-14 on the road.

The Coaches: Corey Fillipovich, who has served as Wilmington's defensive coordinator for the previous four seasons, enters his first full season as head coach in 2022. The former OAC Assistnat Coach of the Year, he stepped in to lead the program through the final four games of the 2021 fall campaign which included consecutive victories over Capital University and Otterbein University to end the season. Geoff Dartt, the son-in-law of legendary Head Coach Larry Kehres, is in his third season as head coach at his alma mater. 

The Offenses: Adam Dixon, in his first year as a starting quarterback, averages 258.2 yards through the air with 14 touchdowns and eight interceptions for Wilmington. Four Quakers - Ace Taylor, Itika Wynn Jr., Gavin Foushee and Lathan Jones - have all caught at least 15 passes with Taylor leading the way with 31 receptions. Wynn Jr. has a team-high five touchdown passes while Jones has 493 receiving yards. On the ground, Nehemiah Jenkins and Ben Hobbs have both rushed 64 times for a combined 500 yards. Braxton Plunk quarterbacks the Mount Union offense and averages over 300 yards per game with 22 touchdowns and just three interceptions. Wayne Ruby has hauled in 44 receptions for an average of 149 yards per game to go along with 16 touchdowns. DeAndre Parker leads the Purple Raiders in rushing with an average of 89 yards per contest.

The Defenses: Jarod Lee and Zac Schmidt both have at least 50 tackles for the Quaker defense while Trafford Dunn leads the team in tackles for loss with 5.5. Both Joey Weikel and Jake Sheriff have two sacks while Quentin Davis has broken up seven passes. Mason McMillen leads Mount Union's defense with 46 tackles while Rossy Moore has 5.5 sacks on the season. A trio of Purple Raiders - Josh Jones, John Roland and Ian Sexton - have intercepted two passes.
