Football Welcomes Otterbein for Homecoming Game on Saturday

WILMINGTON, Ohio – The Wilmington College football team hosts Otterbein University on Saturday as part of WC's 2022 Homecoming Weekend festivities. Kickoff from Williams Stadium is scheduled for 2 p.m.

The Teams: Wilmington and Otterbein. The Fightin' Quakers enter the game with a 1-1 record having defeating Southern Virginia University 52-27 in the season-opener before falling to Baldwin Wallace University (BW) by a single point (13-12) last weekend. The Cardinals are also 1-1 overall after a 21-13 victory at Ohio Wesleyan University and a 34-7 defeat at the hands of Heidelberg University in the 30th Rhine River Cup game. 

The Coaches: Corey Fillipovich, who has served as Wilmington's defensive coordinator for the previous four seasons, enters his first full season as acting head coach in 2022. He stepped in to lead the program through the final four games of the 2021 fall campaign which included consecutive victories over Capital University and Otterbein University to end the season. Tim Doup, a 1992 Otterbein alumnus, is in his 13th season as the Cardinals' head coach. Twice named the OAC Coach of the Year, Doup has been on the Otterbein staff for two decades having served as the program's offensive coordinator for nine years prior to taking the reins as head coach in 2012.

The Offenses: Quarterback Adam Dixon, once named Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) Offensive Player of the Week, averages nearly 285 yards per game through the air and has thrown seven touchdowns on the season. A trio of Quakers - Ace Taylor, Itika Wynn Jr. and Lathan Jones - have over 100 yards receiving with Wynn Jr. leading the way in yards (174) and touchdowns (3) while Taylor has a dozen receptions. On the ground, Ben Hobbs has carried 39 times for 163 yards. Eason Hardouin has thrown for 266 yards in two games for the Cardinals while running back Siraj Muhammed averages over 81 yards a game on the ground. 

The Defenses: The Quakers' defense, which allowed just 230 yards to BW last week, is led by Jarod Lee with 23 tackles and, alongside defensive end Trafford Dunn, has 2.5 tackles for loss. Quentin Davis leads WC in pass breakups with three and also as the team's sack on the season. The Cardinals, also a stout defensive unit, is led by Zach Hymer who has 20 tackles. Nick Cipriano has tallied 2.5 sacks for Otterbein. 

Tale of the Tape: Points per game – Wilmington 32.0, Otterbein 14.0, points per game allowed – Wilmington 20.0, Otterbein 23.5, yards per game – Wilmington 362.5, Otterbein 291.5, yards per game allowed – Wilmington 259.0, Otterbein 359.0, passing yards per game – Wilmington 284.5, Otterbein 175.5, passing yards per game allowed – Wilmington 123.0, Otterbein 277.5, rushing yards per game – Wilmington 78.0, Otterbein 116.0, rushing yards per game allowed – Wilmington 136.0, Otterbein 81.5.

Series History: Wilmington is 8-14 against Otterbein since joining the OAC prior to the 2000 season. The Quakers have won each of the last three meetings, but all by one possession or less. More information on the series history can be viewed by visiting the link above.
