UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS, Ohio - John Carroll University, ranked No. 13 in the most recent D3Football.com Top 25 Poll, displayed its top-15 defense nationally in a 42-0 victory over the Wilmington College football team in Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) action from Don Shula Stadium on Saturday.

The Blue Streaks' defense, coincidentally also ranked No. 13 in the nation in yards allowed per game, held an explosive Fightin' Quaker offense to just 113 total yards including just 27 yards through the air, normally a strong-suit for Wilmington.

John Carroll (JCU) scored on its first two touchdowns and added another score before the end of the first quarter to put the game out of reach.

The Blue Streaks, who tallied over 600 yards of offense against the Quakers last year, were held to 358 total yards including 274 through the air and 84 on the ground. JCU also won the turnover battle 4-0 including picking off Kyle Barrett three times.

Offensively, the bright spot for Wilmington was Malik Sims, carrying the ball 20 times for 77 yards.

Jake Floriea and Joe Collins combined for 15-of-19 for 174 yards and five touchdowns through the air. Evan Nugent hauled in five receptions, including three scores, for 97 yards. The JCU rushing attack was shut down by the Quakers' defense as the hosts averaged just 2.1 yards per carry.

Defensively, Ameer Jackson tallied a season-high 14 tackles including three for loss while Tavion Bryant had seven, two of which were for loss. Seven Blue Streaks had at least five tackles.

Wilmington (1-7, 1-6 OAC) returns home after a two-week road swing to face Capital University on Senior Day. Kickoff from Williams Stadium is slated for 1:30 p.m.
