WILMINGTON, Ohio – The Wilmington College football team comes off its bye week with a two-game home stand beginning with the University of Mount Union at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 12.
The Teams: Wilmington and Mount Union. The Fightin' Quakers are 1-3 on the season and 1-2 in Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) play after falling 38-21 at Muskingum University two weeks ago. The Purple Raiders, ranked No.2 in the country, are 4-0 and 3-0 in the OAC after a 58-0 shutout win over Otterbein University last Saturday.
The Coaches: Bryan Moore, a 1999 graduate of Hiram College, begins his third season leading Wilmington's football program. Moore began instilling his vision on the program having brought in two large freshman classes. He has three victories over Earlham College and snapped a 40-game OAC losing streak by defeating Capital University in his first season. More recently, the Quakers defeating Ohio Northern for the first time since 1956 on Sept. 21. Previously, Moore spent time at both Bluffton University and Heidelberg. Vince Kehres, the son of former head coach Larry Kehres, has won 84 games in his six years as head coach at his alma mater. He has won two NCAA Division III national championships.
The Offense: Kyle Barrett leads both Wilmington and the OAC in passing yardage at 333.0 yards per game. He's also thrown nine touchdowns and has a quarterback efficiency rating of 158.8. Gino Hinton Jr. is the Quakers' top rusher at 221 yards. Wilmington also features a three-pronged attack at wide receiver as Ace Taylor and Itika Wynn Jr. have at least 30 receptions. Wynn Jr. leads the group in touchdowns with five while Luke Richardson averages over 30 yards per reception. D'Angelo Fulford leads Mount Union's high-powered offense with 1,121 yards, 17 touchdowns and a quarterback efficiency rating of 223.7. Josh Petruccelli averages over 100 yards on the ground while Justin Hill has hauled in 10 receiving touchdowns.
The Defense: Ameer Jackson and Tre'Quez Parks both have at least 40 tackles for the Quakers while Tavion Bryant isn't far behind with 39 tackles. Parks has two sacks to lead the team while Bryant has 8.5 tackles for loss. Mount Union's balanced defense has eight individuals who have tallied double digits in kills. Mitch O'Hara leads the bunch with 18 total tackles while Kordell Ford and Derrick Bradley have 11 and 10 solo tackles respectively.
