Volleyball to Conclude 2021 Spring Season at John Carroll on Friday

SERIES HISTORY

WILMINGTON, Ohio – The Wilmington College volleyball team concludes the 2021 spring season with a pair of Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) matches at John Carroll University on Friday. First serve is slated for 6 & 8 p.m. respectively.

The Teams: Wilmington and John Carroll (JCU). The Fightin' Quakers are 1-13 on the season after notching their first set and match victories with a five-set thriller over Capital University on Senior Night on Tuesday. The Blue Streaks are 6-10 on the season after a pair of straight-set losses at Heidelberg University on Tuesday.

The Coaches: A new era of Wilmington volleyball has arrived as Andy Riesenberg, an experienced coach at the NCAA Division I, II, III and club levels, enters his second season leading the program in the spring of 2021. The Mount St. Joseph University alumnus has spent time at Southern Illinois University, Xavier University and Ohio University as an assistant coach as well as a stint as head coach at NCAA Division II institution Lake Erie College. Michelle Benoit, winner of over 500 career matches, is in her fifth season as JCU's head coach. She previously spent 14 years as Mount St. Joseph's head coach.

The Players: A quartet of Quakers – Victoria LongRachel KennedySofia Thomas and Sydney Geibel – all average over a kill per set while Thomas and McKenzie Stringer combine to dish out over six assists per set. Defensive specialists Karley Schlensker and Blake O'Brien combine for six digs per set. A trio of Blue Streaks, Cassi Calamunci, Jennifer Follmer and Abigail Kirk - all put down over two kills per set. JCU employs a 6-2 offensive attack as both Ally Bartolone and Maddie Maziarz dish out over three assists per set.

Series History: Since the 2008 season, Wilmington is 2-10 against John Carroll. The Quakers did win the last matchup in University Heights, however. More information can be viewed by visiting the link above.
