Volleyball Opens Home Slate With Mount Union Friday

WILMINGTON, Ohio – The Wilmington College volleyball team opens its home slate on Friday with a pair of matches against the University of Mount Union on Friday. First serve from Fred Raizk Arena is slated for 6 p.m.

The Teams: Wilmington and Mount Union. Both squads are in search of their first victories as the Fightin' Quakers at Muskingum in two three-set matches while the Purple Raiders dropped a pair of five-set matches at John Carroll University on Tuesday evening.

The Coaches: A new era of Wilmington volleyball has arrived as Andy Riesenberg, an experienced coach at the NCAA Division I, II, III and club levels, enters his second season leading the program in the spring of 2021. The Mount St. Joseph University alumnus has spent time at Southern Illinois University, Xavier University and Ohio University as an assistant coach as well as a stint as head coach at NCAA Division II institution Lake Erie College. Melissa Mahnke-Morrison is in her sixth season as Mount Union's head coach. The Purple Raiders have crossed the 20-win plateau and had a winning Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) record each of the last three seasons.

The Players: A quartet of Quakers – Victoria Long, Rachel Kennedy, Sofia Thomas and Sydney Geibel – all average over a kill per set while Thomas and McKenzie Stringer combine to dish out over seven assists per set. Libero Karley Schlensker is the team's leader in digs, averaging 4.25 per set. A trio of Purple Raiders – Madelin DiBease, Chase Filicko and Isabella Sprunger – put down over two kills per set while Katie May and Mollie Thomas both dish out over four assists per set. Alyssa Kasaris anchors Mount Union's back row to the tune of 7.57 digs per set.

Series History: Since the 2008 season, Wilmington is winless against Mount Union in a dozen matches. More information can be viewed by visiting the link above.
