Volleyball To Face Ohio Northern on Tuesday

WILMINGTON, Ohio – The Wilmington College volleyball team continues Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) play for the 2021 spring season on Tuesday with a pair of matches against Ohio Northern University. First serve from the ONU Sports Center is slated for 6 p.m.

The Teams: Wilmington and Ohio Northern (ONU). The Fightin' Quakers in search of their first win this season after a pair of straight-set defeats at the hands of the University of Mount Union on Friday evening. The Polar Bears, who enter the weekend with a 4-2 record, are looking to return to winning ways after a pair of losses at Muskingum University on the weekend.

The Coaches: A new era of Wilmington volleyball has arrived as Andy Riesenberg, an experienced coach at the NCAA Division I, II, III and club levels, enters his second season leading the program in the spring of 2021. The Mount St. Joseph University alumnus has spent time at Southern Illinois University, Xavier University and Ohio University as an assistant coach as well as a stint as head coach at NCAA Division II institution Lake Erie College. ONU is also under relatively new leadership in Katie Kuhn. A former two-time All-American for the Polar Bears, Kuhn is just the third coach in the 61-year history of the program.

The Players: A quartet of Quakers – Victoria LongRachel KennedySofia Thomas and Sydney Geibel – all average over a kill per set while Thomas and McKenzie Stringer combine to dish out nearly seven assists per set. Libero Karley Schlensker is the team's leader in digs, averaging 3.61 per set. A trio of Polar Bears - Sydney Eggleton, Melina Woods and Eva Ehlinger - all put down over two kills per set. Setter Kiki Carle dishes out nine assists per set while Hannah Irmer anchors the back row to the tune of 4.75 digs per set.

Series History: Since the 2008 season, Wilmington is winless against Ohio Northern in a dozen matches. More information can be viewed by visiting the link above.
