Women's Soccer Heads to John Carroll in Regular Season Finale

WILMINGTON, Ohio - The Wilmington College women's soccer team concludes its 2021 spring regular season on Sunday with a 2 p.m. contest at John Carroll University's Don Shula Stadium.

The Teams: Wilmington and John Carroll (JCU). The Fightin' Quakers are 3-3-2 on the season after a 2-0 defeat at the hands of Capital University on Thursday. The Blue Streaks are 4-3-1 overall after a 1-0 victory over Heidelberg University.

The Coaches: Steve Spirk is in his 29th year leading Wilmington's women's soccer team. The 1981 alumnus is a four-time All-American and one of the best players in men's soccer history. Spirk is the men's soccer leader in career goals (74), career assists (43), career points (191), single-season points (57 and 54) and season goals (22 twice). He has guided the Quakers to six NCAA Division III Tournament appearances. Michael Marich, formerly a student-athlete at the University of Akron, is in his ninth season as JCU's head coach. The Blue Streaks have had a winning record in seven of his nine season.

The Players: Taylor Huffman and Heidi Edens have both scored three goals to lead the Wilmington offense while Ema Menges has netted two goals to go along with an assist. Goalkeeper Lauren Galloway, alongside the Quaker defense, has a goals against average of 1.40. John Carroll has scored five goals on the season, four coming off the foot of Brittany Dufalla.

Queens of Overtime: Half of Wilmington's contests thus far this season have gone to overtime. The Quakers are 1-1-2 in those contests.

OAC Tournament: Wilmington, which has qualified for its second consecutive OAC Tournament, earns the right to host a game with a win at JCU.

Series History: Wilmington is 8-9-7 against JCU since joining the OAC prior to the 2000 season. The Quakers won the most recent meeting, 2-0 in University Heights. More information on the series history can be viewed by visiting the link above.
