WILMINGTON, Ohio - The Wilmington College women's soccer team continues its quest for an Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) Tournament berth when Capital University comes to Williams Stadium for a 7 p.m. contest on Thursday.
The Teams: Wilmington and Capital. The Fightin' Quakers are 3-2-2 overall after a 4-1 win at Baldwin Wallace University on Monday, the program's first win in Berea in over a decade. The Crusaders are 5-1-0 after falling for the first time at Ohio Northern University by a score of 1-0. The goal was Capital's first surrendered of the season.
The Coaches: Steve Spirk is in his 29th year leading Wilmington's women's soccer team. The 1981 alumnus is a four-time All-American and one of the best players in men's soccer history. Spirk is the men's soccer leader in career goals (74), career assists (43), career points (191), single-season points (57 and 54) and season goals (22 twice). He has guided the Quakers to six NCAA Division III Tournament appearances. Matt Ogden has been Capital's head coach for six seasons. The Crusaders have had a winning record in all five of his completed seasons so far.
The Players: Taylor Huffman and Heidi Edens have both scored three goals to lead the Wilmington offense while Ema Menges has netted two goals to go along with an assist. Goalkeeper Lauren Galloway, alongside the Quaker defense, has a goals against average of 1.32. Madeline Woodruff and Lexi Snider have combined to score nine of Capital's 26 team goals. Netminder Lauren White has surrendered just a single goal in over 510 minutes in net.
Queens of Overtime: Four of Wilmington's seven contests thus far this season have gone to overtime. The Quakers are 1-1-2 in those contests.
Series History: Wilmington is 11-13-3 against Capital since becoming an NCAA Division III member in the early 1990s. The Crusaders are on a six-game winning streak. More information on the series history can be viewed by visiting the link above.
OAC Tournament: Wilmington will secure a second consecutive OAC Tournament berth with a point in either of its next two contests.
