Women's Soccer Faces Muskingum in Road Test Thursday

WILMINGTON, Ohio - The Wilmington College women's soccer team continues its 2021 spring season with a trip to New Concord, Ohio, for a matchup with Muskingum University on Thursday evening. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.

The Teams: Wilmington and Muskingum. The Fightin' Quakers are 0-0-1 after a season-opening 1-1 draw at Heidelberg University on Saturday. The Fighting Muskies are 0-1-0 after a 1-0 defeat in University Heights, Ohio, against John Carroll University over the weekend.

The Coaches: Steve Spirk is in his 29th year leading Wilmington's women's soccer team. The 1981 alumnus is a four-time All-American and one of the best players in men's soccer history. Spirk is the men's soccer leader in career goals (74), career assists (43), career points (191), single-season points (57 and 54) and season goals (22 twice). Dani Gunderson, formerly an assistant at Denison University, is in her first season leading Muskingum's program.

The Players: Tiffany Hayes led Wilmington with seven shots in the season-opener in Tiffin, Ohio, while Heidi Edens scored the team's goal. Those two Quakers both fired four shots on goal. Lauren Galloway, who garnered All-Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) recognition a season ago, made four saves with one goal allowed. Four Muskies – Mary Double, Lexi Fry, Alyssa Schneier and Skyllar Strong – all took one shot for Muskingum against John Carroll. Starting goalkeeper Katie Bodenmiller faced nine shots on goal and made eight saves.

OAC Fan Policy: The OAC President's Council has updated its spectator policy to allow two individuals per student-athlete to attend home contests.

Series History: Wilmington is 23-1-1 against Muskingum since becoming a member of NCAA Division III in the early 1990s. The lone loss, however, came in a 3-1 defeat the last time the two teams met – Oct. 9, 2019.
