Women's Soccer Hosts League-Leading Otterbein on Thursday

WILMINGTON, Ohio - The Wilmington College women's soccer team looks for a second consecutive victory on Thursday when Otterbein University comes to Williams Stadium for a 7 p.m. contest.

The Teams: Wilmington and Otterbein. The Fightin' Quakers are 2-1-2 overall after a 1-0 overtime victory over Marietta College on Sunday. The Cardinals are atop the Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) with a perfect 5-0 record. Otterbein has scored 19 goals and surrendered just two on the season.

The Coaches: Steve Spirk is in his 29th year leading Wilmington's women's soccer team. The 1981 alumnus is a four-time All-American and one of the best players in men's soccer history. Spirk is the men's soccer leader in career goals (74), career assists (43), career points (191), single-season points (57 and 54) and season goals (22 twice). Brandon Koons has been Otterbein's head women's soccer coach for 22 seasons. The Cardinals have claimed nine OAC regular season titles under his guidance.

The Players: Both Taylor Huffman and Ema Menges have five points for Wilmington's offense while Heidi Edens has also netted two goals for the Quakers. Lauren Galloway, the Quakers' netminder, has made 22 saves and a goals-against-average of 0.90. Bella Shivley, Otterbein's program leader in career goals and assists, has scored four goals and dished out six assists while Delaney Earl leads the squad with five goals.

Queens of Overtime: Four of Wilmington's five contests thus far this season have gone to overtime. The Quakers are 1-1-2 in those contests.

Series History: Wilmington is 12-19-0 against Otterbein since becoming a member of NCAA Division III in the early 1990s. The Cardinals are currently on an eight-game winning streak. More information on the series history can be viewed by visiting the link above.
