Price nets two goals in victory

BLUFFTON, OH – Junior forward Lauren Price (Xenia, OH/Waynesville) scored two first-half goals to lead Wilmington to the 3-1 victory over Bluffton Saturday as the Quakers stayed unbeaten on the season.

"They are a tough team to play," said head coach Steve Spirk. "We were able to jump on them early, scoring three goals in the first half.

"Both (of the first half goals) were cause by composure from Lauren Price in front of the net. She was definitely the player of the match."

Price's goals in the 13th and 19th minute, respectively, were her first goals of the season. Senior Sarah Watters (Cincinnati, OH/Turpin) had the assist on the second goal.

The third WC goal, in the 43rd minute, was actually an own goal caused by a corner kick.

Wilmington (6-0-1) is off to its best start since they started the 2007 season 7-0-1. It also marked the first goal the Fightin' Quakers have allowed all season long.

"It wasn't a good goal," said Spirk. "We were up 2-0 and that is kind of a dangerous score in soccer. We let down a bit. They sent a free kick into the box and we let drop and they were able to score. We learned a valuable lesson."

Sophomore goalkeeper Taylor Franklin (Delaware, OH/Rutherford B. Hayes) recorded seven saves in earning her third victory of the year.

Wilmington won't have a lot of time to reflect on win number six as they host the College of Wooster 2 p.m. Saturday at Charlie Gilhart Field. It will be WC's third game in four days.
