Wilmington suffers third straight loss

BEXLEY, OH - The Wilmington College women's soccer team lost for the third straight time, this one a 2-1 decision to Capital Wednesday in Ohio Athletic Conference action. The Lady Quakers have now lost four of their last five games.

Senior Hannah Riffel (Circleville, OH/Logan Elm) got her first start in goal after missing the early parts of the season with an injury. She faced three shots in the first half, saving all of them. In fact, neither team was able to score through the first 66 minutes of the contest.

Capital finally got on the board, scoring on a set play off a corner kick in the 67th minute and they added an insurance goal two minutes later.

Junior Sammy Koerner (Fairfield, OH/Hamilton Badin) got WC on the board in the 86th minute off a pass from senior Rachel Gutowski (Petoskey, MI/Petoskey). However, the Fightin' Quakers weren't able to get the equalizer in falling to 1-3 in OAC play.

WC didn't take any corner kicks in the match, while the Crusaders were able to get three.
Wilmington, which fell to 8-5-1 overall, returns home to Charlie Gilhart Field 4:30 p.m. Saturday to face Baldwin-Wallace.
