Five Quakers Earn Six Awards from Ohio Collegiate Soccer Association

WILMINGTON, Ohio - Five Wilmington College men's soccer members earned six Ohio Collegiate Soccer Association (OCSA) awards that were released on Dec. 19. Four Fightin Quakers - Brady Shapiro, Yusef Muqtadir, Elorm Dogbey and Jeffry Vasquez - earned athletic awards while Muqtadir was joined by Felix Maurer in being named Academic All-OSCA.

Muqtadir, a First Team All-Ohio Athletic Conference, United Soccer Coaches Second Team All-Region, Third Team CoSIDA Academic All-American led Wilmington offensively with nine goals, four assists and 22 total points. He took a team-best 49 shots and tallied game-winning goals at Earlham College (Sept. 1), vs. the University of Mount Union (Oct. 9) and at Ohio Northern University (Oct. 13). He added First Team Athletic and Academic All-OSCA honors to his mantle. 

Shapiro, also a First Team All-OSCA selection who joined Muqtadir on the United Soccer Coaches All-Region and All-OAC teams, helped anchor a Quaker defense that allowed under a single goal per game in the spring of 2021. He also aided the offense by scoring goals at Heidelberg University (Oct. 2) and at Baldwin Wallace University (Oct. 23) while assisting on five others. 

Dogbey, a Second Team All-OCSA honoree the OAC's Forward of the Year in the spring of 2021, scored seven goals and also had a trio of game-winners - at Kalamazoo College (Sept. 11), at Denison University (Sept. 18) and at Muskingum University (Oct. 6). Vasquez, who garnered a spot on the All-OCSA Third Team, completed the three-headed WC attack has he scored six goals and assisted on three others for a total of 15 points.

Maurer, the team's goalkeeper, tallied 60 saves with a goals-against average of under one per contest. He was a part of six shutouts. 

The Quakers finished the season 12-3-3 including a 5-2-2 mark in OAC play. For the second consecutive season, WC hosted an OAC Tournament game as the No. 3 seed.
