Wilmington Heads to John Carroll for Regular Season Finale

WILMINGTON, Ohio – The Wilmington College men's soccer team heads to University Heights for the regular season finale at John Carroll University on Saturday. Kickoff from Don Shula Stadium is slated for 7:30 p.m.

The Teams: Wilmington and John Carroll (JCU). The Fightin' Quakers are 12-1-3 on the season and 5-1-2 in Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) competition after a 1-0 win over Capital University on Senior Night on Wednesday. The Blue Streaks are 9-3-4 on the season and an unbeaten 6-0-2 in conference play after a 4-0 thrashing of Heidelberg University on the road on Wednesday.

The Coaches: Alex Van der Sluijs is in his fourth year leading Wilmington's men's soccer team. The 2007 alumnus, who was a three-time First Team All-OAC selection and a member of the program's only team to win an OAC title in 2004, got the program within a shootout victory of playing for an OAC Tournament title in the spring of 2021. He worked at Defiance College for seven seasons. Dejan Mladenovic, a 2005 JCU graduate, is in his 16th season on the JCU sidelines including his first as head coach. 

The Players: Seniors Yusef Muqtadir and Elorm Dogbey lead the Quaker offense combining for 16 goals and five assists. Jeffry Vasquez and Michael Owusu have also notched over 10 points on the season. Anchored by a stout defense, senior goalkeeper Felix Maurer has a goals-against-average over 0.74 with six shutouts and 49 saves to his name. Benjamin Hryszko leads JCU with seven goals while a trio of Blue Streaks - Jack Foht, Nicholas Graeca and James Hoover - have all netted four goals. 

Regional Rankings: Both teams are ranked in the most recent NCAA Regional Rankings. JCU is fourth and Wilmington is ninth.

OAC Tournament: Both Wilmington and John Carroll have clinched top four seeds for the upcoming OAC Tournament next week. 

Series History: Wilmington is 5-22-3 against John Carroll since the 1993 season. The Quakers have not beaten the Blue Streaks since the 2005 season. More information on the series history can be viewed by visiting the link above.
