GAME PROGRAM

WILMINGTON, Ohio – For the second consecutive year, the Wilmington College men's soccer team will begin the postseason by hosting Capital University in an Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) Tournament quarterfinal. This year's edition is slated for a 7 p.m. kickoff on Tuesday.

The Teams: Wilmington and Capital. The Quakers finished the regular season with a 12-2-3 overall record, a 5-2-2 OAC mark and enter the postseason as the OAC's No. 3 seed. WC most recently fell to co-league champion John Carroll University 2-0 on the road. The Comets finished the regular season 7-6-1 including an even 4-4-1 record in conference competition. CU fell to co-league champion Otterbein University 2-1 on the road.

The Coaches: Alex Van der Sluijs is in his fourth year leading Wilmington's men's soccer team. The 2007 alumnus, who was a three-time First Team All-OAC selection and a member of the program's only team to win an OAC title in 2004, got the program within a shootout victory of playing for an OAC Tournament title in the spring of 2021. He worked at Defiance College for seven seasons. Alan Yost, an Ohio Wesleyan University alumnus, enters his 10th season as Capital's head men's soccer coach. He's guided the Comets to two NCAA Division III Men's Soccer Tournament appearances in the last four seasons.

The Players: Yusef Muqtadir, Elorm Dogbey and Jeffry Vasquez have combined to score half (22-of-44) of Wilmington's goals this season with Muqtadir leading the charge at nine goals, four assists and 22 points. Brady Shapiro and Grant Murray have both dished out a season-high five assists while goalkeeper Felix Maurer has a goals-against average of 0.81. A trio of Comets – Jack Kossoudji, Jack Francisco and Sam Spirk – have combined for 15 of Capital's 32 goals on the season.

Series History: Wilmington is 15-11-1 against Capital since becoming an NCAA Division III member in the early 1990s. The Quakers have won the last two meetings – 2-1 in the 2021 spring OAC Tournament and 1-0 earlier this season. More information on the series history can be viewed by visiting the link above.
