Men's Soccer Heads to Denison for Second Clash with NCAC Foe This Week

WILMINGTON, Ohio - The Wilmington College men's soccer team will face its second North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) opponent of the week on Saturday when the Fightin' Quakers travel to Denison University for a 7 p.m. contest.

The Teams: Wilmington and Denison. The Fightin' Quakers enter the game unbeaten with a 4-0-1 record after dispatching Wittenberg University 4-2 on Tuesday evening. The Big Red are 4-1-0 on the season, but riding a four-game winning streak after dispatching No. 7 Capital University 4-1 on Tuesday.

The Coaches: Alex Van der Sluijs is in his fourth year leading Wilmington's men's soccer team. The 2007 alumnus, who was a three-time First Team All-OAC selection and a member of the program's only team to win an OAC title in 2004, got the program within a shootout victory of playing for an OAC Tournament title in the spring of 2021. He worked at Defiance College for seven seasons. Brandon Bianco, the former Head Coach at Case Western Reserve University, is in his second season as Denison's head coach.

The Players: Yusef Muqtadir leads Wilmington offensively with four goals and two assists for 10 total points. A quintet of Quakers – Michael Owusu, Jeffry Vasquez, Brady Vilvens, Elorm Dogbey and Mitch Solle – have all netted two goals. Defensively, the Fightin' Quaker back line, alongside goalkeeper Felix Maurer, has surrendered just two goals (both against Wittenberg) on the entire season. Ethan Miracle matches Muqtadir's totals with four goals and two assists while Luca Vicinelli and Cameron McIntosh have both scored three goals for Denison.

Series History: Wilmington is 12-10-1 against Denison since the 1986 season. Last time the two met in Granville (Sept. 5, 2017), the Big Red came away with a 4-0 victory. More information on the series history can be viewed by visiting the link above.
