Men's Soccer Puts Unbeaten Record on the Line at Kalamazoo on Saturday

SERIES HISTORY

WILMINGTON, Ohio - The Wilmington College men's soccer team heads to Kalamazoo College for a non-conference contest on Saturday. Kickoff from Mackenzie Field is slated for 5 p.m.

The Teams: Wilmington and Kalamazoo. The Fightin' Quakers are 2-0-1 after finishing the 36th annual Kiwanis Classic with an 11-0 thrashing of Mount St. Joseph University at home on Sunday. The Hornets are an even 1-1-0 on the season and most recently won a 3-1 decision at Illinois Tech on Saturday.

The Coaches: Alex Van der Sluijs is in his fourth year leading Wilmington's men's soccer team. The 2007 alumnus, who was a three-time First Team All-OAC selection and a member of the program's only team to win an OAC title in 2004, got the program within a shootout victory of playing for an OAC Tournament title in the spring of 2021. He worked at Defiance College for seven seasons. Lumumba Shabazz is in his 10th season as Kalamazoo's head men's soccer coach. He's won over 75 games during that span.

The Players: A trio of Quakers - Yusef Muqtadir, Mitch Solle and Brady Vilvens - have netted multiple goals for Wilmington, most of which came in the 11-0 win over MSJ. Felix Maurer has been a part of three shutouts and made five saves in those three games. Alex Wallce as scored two goals for Kalamazoo while three other Hornets - Aidan Gillig, Michele Alia and Emilio Romo - have all scored once.

OAC Player of the Week: Yusef Muqtadir is the reigning Ohio Athletic Confernece (OAC) Offensive Player of the Week.

Series History: Wilmington is 5-0-2 against Kalamazoo since becoming an NCAA Division III member prior to the 1991 season. More information on the series history can be viewed by visiting the link above.
