Women's Swimming Flies Past Heidelberg for First OAC Win of the Season

(TIFFIN, Ohio) – The Wilmington College women's swimming team was back in the pool Saturday afternoon for the first time since late November, facing off in a dual with the Heidelberg University Student Princes. The Quakers won the dual, 168-77 to improve to 3-4 overall this season and 1-2 in the Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC).

The Quakers got started with a pair of second place finishes in the 200 Yard Medley Relay and the 1000 Yard Freestyle. Lilly Green picked up their first win of the day in the 200 Yard Freestyle with a time of 2:17.84, just edging out teammate Courtney Getter, who swam a 2:18.25.

The Quakers won the 50 Yard Backstroke as Sydney Overmyer finished with a time of 32.50, before Sophia Mignery won the 50 Yard Breaststroke in 35.61 seconds. Green won the 50 Yard Freestyle at 26.72, while Makenna Garn finished second with a time of 27.06 seconds. Audrey Bibb took the 100 Yard Freestyle in 1:04.37.

Garn won the 100 Yard Breaststroke for the Quakers with a time of 1:12.81, which was nearly two seconds better than her competition. Overymyer won the 500 Yard Freestyle in 5:51.10 and was the only swimmer to finish in under six minutes. Green won her third event of the day, the 50 Yard Butterfly in 30.49 seconds.

Garn won her second event in the 200 Yard IM, finishing with a time of 2:24.12 seconds, over 11 seconds better than her nearest competitor.

Head coach Trip Breen was excited about his team's performance, "It was great to have the opportunity to race again today after a long break. The team put in some great training over break and I am looking forward to seeing it pay off as we move forward."
