Women's Swimming Takes Second this Weekend in Delaware

(DELAWARE, Ohio) – The Wilmington College women's swimming team finished their first portion of the season this weekend at the Corbiere-Merion Invitational hosted by Ohio Wesleyan University. The Quakers finished in second place with a team score of 772.

Day One

During yesterday's competition, the Quakers relay teams led the way, while individually, freshmen Gabby Kuetemeyer and Lily Green had standout performances.

The Quakers got off to a good start in the very first event, the 200 Yard Medley Relay. The team of Sydney Overmyer, Kuetemeyer, Makenna Garn, and Green swam to a time of 1:58.17 to finish in third place. Kuetemeyer was the first individual to finish in the top-three for the Quakers, swimming a 1:10.72 to finish third in the 100 Yard Breaststroke.

Green followed her in the next event with a second-place finish at 2:06.66 in the 200 Yard Freestyle, which was exactly a second behind Julianne Hobson of Davis & Elkins College's 2:05.66. Their final top-three performance during session one was in the 400 Yard Freestyle Relay where the team of Garn, Audrey Bibb, Overmyer, and Green finished second at 4:00.98. The women finished the first session in second place with 296 points.

After session two was diving, a sport in which the Quakers don't compete in, session three began. Gabby Kuetemeyer finished third for the Quakers in the 200 Yard Breaststroke with a time of 2:34.76. After day one, Wilmington was in third place at 481 points, only trailing second place Ohio Wesleyan University by seven points.

Day Two

The second day of competition started out with a third-place finish for the Quakers in the 400 Yard Medley Relay. Sydney Overmyer, Makenna Garn, Gabby Kuetemeyer, and Lilly Green swam to a time of 4:21.83. Green finished second in the 50 Yard Freestyle by just .01 of a second with a time of 25.53 to Davis & Elkins Shelbey Fuller's 25.52.

The team of Overmyer, Audrey Bibb, Sophia Mignery, and Lilly Green won the 200 Yard Freestyle Relay at 1:48.29.

Head coach Trip Breen was happy with the team's performance, "In total, the team had 39 lifetime best performances, and a bunch of in-season bests. The team was outstanding this weekend. Both the men and women performed beyond expectation. It is up to all of us now to keep this momentum rolling as we continue to prepare for a conference championship meet."

What's Up Next

The Quakers aren't back in action until Saturday January 13th, 2024, when they travel to Tiffin, Ohio to face off with the Heidelberg University Student Princes at 1:00 P.M.
