Women's Soccer to Face Ohio Northern Wednesday

WILMINGTON, Ohio - The Wilmington College women's soccer team returns to the friendly confines of Williams Stadium on Wednesday evening when Ohio Northern University comes to campus for a 7 p.m. contest.

The Teams: Wilmington and Ohio Northern (ONU). The Fightin' Quakers are 5-6-1 overall and 2-1-0 in Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) competition after a 2-0 defeat at the University of Mount Union on Saturday. The Polar Bears are 7-3-2 overall and a perfect 3-0-0 in conference play after a 6-0 win over Muskingum University on Saturday.

The Coaches: Steve Spirk returns to coach his 30th year for the Wilmington women's soccer team. Spirk has led the Quakers to six NCAA Division III Tournament appearances including five berths in the regional semifinal ("Sweet 16") round. Six Wilmington teams have claimed regular season conference titles under Spirk's tutelage including three OAC titles in a span of four years from 2000-03. Mark Batman, a 2000 Wilmington alumnus, is in his 18th season as ONU's head coach. Five of his Polar Bear teams have made the NCAA Division III Women's Soccer Tournament.

The Players: A trio of Quakers – Maddie Scott, Heidi Edens and Courtney Ryan – have netted multiple goals with Scott leading the bunch at three. Scott and Elizabeth Matthews have dished out two assists while Wilmington's goalkeeper, Lauren Galloway, has 61 saves and a 1.73 goals against average. Jill Roberts and Alaina Casey both have four goals for ONU offensively. Kristy Catrine has played over 1,000 minutes in goal and surrenders less than a goal per game.

Home Sweet Home: Wilmington is unbeaten (4-0-1) in its last five games at Williams Stadium.

Series History: Wilmington is 7-18-0 against Ohio Northern since the 1994 season. The Quakers are looking to snap a seven-game losing skid. More information on the series history can be found by visiting the link above.
