Women's Basketball Falls in First Game of Fred Raizk Memorial Classic Friday Night

(WILMINGTON, Ohio) – The Wilmington College women's basketball team opened up their 2023-24 home schedule inside Fred Raizk Arena on Hermann Court Friday night against the Asbury University Eagles in their opening game of the 2023 Fred Raizk Memorial Classic. They lost the game 70-60 and are now 1-2 overall this season.

The Eagles started the game on a 10-5 run with 6:07 remaining in the first quarter. They knocked down a pair of threes to start the game. After trailing 13-7, the Quakers began to push their way back into the contest, with an 8-4 rally to end the quarter down just two at 17-15. Keetyn Hupp had three points during the surge.

Wilmington took the lead early in the second period after Hupp hit a pair of threes to give them a 21-17 advantage. The two teams would be neck and neck throughout the remainder of the half, as they were tied at 26-26 with 2:27 to go in the quarter. The Eagles used a huge 10-2 run to end the half up 36-28 and seize the momentum of the game.

Asbury held a steady lead in the third quarter, with the score holding at 45-35 for nearly three minutes of the period. The Eagles would take a 54-42 lead into the final quarter. The Quakers made a few attempts to put some pressure on Asbury in the last period but were unable to make a dent in the lead as they never got within a nine-point deficit in the loss.

Notables

  • Freshman Stephanie Altstaetter had 19 points on 7-11 shooting, eight rebounds, two blocks, one assist, and one steal in the game.
  • Freshman Keetyn Hupp had 17 points, three rebounds, three steals, and one assist.
  • Cassidy Lovett led the team with five assists.
  • ZahKyria Walker grabbed six rebounds and dished out three assists.
